Tatras oo the highest mountain range in Poland and one of the highest in the Carpathians. The highest peak is Rysy (2499 m a.s.l.). The most popular and most visited is Kasprowy Wierch (1987 m a.s.l.).
Zakopane is the largest city in the Tatra Mountains. Tourists most often visit Krupówki (the most famous street of the city), Gubałówka (funicular). A popular ski jumping hill - Wielka Krokiew was also built here, where ski jumping competitions take place every year. Although Zakopane is generally a very crowded city, we can also find its nostalgic side here. We can go to Pęksowy Brzysk, a historic cemetery. The graves of well-known and distinguished people for the Tatra Mountains make a really big impression.
Someone who prefers winter sports can go to Białka Tatrzańska or Bukowina Tatrzańska. There are large ski complexes, hostels and hotels.
The Tatras are mountains for professional and skilled tourists. Many trails are difficult and very dangerous, so be prepared before you go. Even the smallest mistake can end badly, so there is no room for bravado and recklessness. If the tourist is not experienced, a good option for him is to choose simple trails, stretching along wide valleys. These include: the Białego Valley, the Mała Łąki Valley, and the Strążyska Valley.
Undoubtedly, the great attraction is Morskie Oko, the largest lake in the Tatra Mountains. It is located at an altitude of 1395 m a.s.l. (in the Rybiego Potok Valley). It has an area of approx. 35 ha, length 862m, width 566 m and a depth of approximately 50 m. To reach the site, visitors can choose scenic tourist routes. Another lake - Zadni Mnichowy Stawek, is the highest situated, located at an altitude of 2070 m a.s.l.). An interesting fact is that the lake is frozen for up to 10 months, so you have to be lucky to hit the period when it is in a liquid state.
Another attraction may be the Bielska Cave, the most visited grotto in the Tatra Mountains. It is entirely on the Slovak side. It is 1752 m long and in the middle you can come across bat colonies.
The Tatra National Park was opened on January 1, 1955, while the idea of its creation appeared a year earlier on the initiative of the Council of Ministers. Annually, the park is visited by 2,500,000 tourists from around the world. You can find here various species of fauna and flora, including rare Edelweiss, Alpine marmots, Tatra chamois. Within the park there is the Valley of Five Ponds - a beautiful place, surrounded by five ponds.
The famous Giewont is an ornament of the Western Tatras. Known for the fact that on its top there is a fifteen-meter cross, visible even from a very long distance.
