Address: Kościelna 6 , 34-450 Grywałd
Gothic, wooden parish church of St. Martin, erected in the second half of the fifteenth century, on the site of an earlier temple. The application says that even earlier in this place was a pagan shingle. Before 1618, the church was significantly rebuilt. The changes mainly concerned the roof and ceiling structures. During this period, a tower was also added, and the interior was covered with polychrome. At the beginning of the 20th century, it was planned to enlarge the presbytery and add side chapels, but these plans were not implemented. Known repairs: before 1930, 1936, 1942, 1958, 1960-61, 2008-2010 (along with extensive conservation works). The church has preserved its original Gothic character to this day. It is an orientated, tripartite temple, upholstered and covered with shingles. It consists of a log chancel and a nave as well as a rectangular tower with a pillar structure. The presbytery is rectangular, which is typical for Podhale churches. The sacristy (extended at the beginning of the 20th century) adjoins the presbytery from the north, and the porch from the south (built in 1845). The tower and the northern part of the nave are surrounded by boarded Saturdays. The presbytery and nave are covered by separate gable roofs, while in the roof above the nave there is a small tetrahedral turret. This is probably the result of reconstruction. It is presumed that originally there was a single-ridge roof in the Lesser Gothic churches typical of Lesser Poland's Gothic churches. The tower has a suspended room and is covered with a steep, pitched tent roof. The southern entrance to the church is enclosed by a Gothic ogival portal. The interior is covered with significantly damaged polychrome, containing figural and ornamental motifs. It has been preserved on the walls and ceiling of the presbytery, on the walls of the nave and the windowsill of the music choir. The ceiling in the presbytery is decorated with painted coffers, and the walls have paintings depicting the scene of the Crucifixion, saints Peter and Paul and evangelists. An interesting scene is depicted on the wall behind the main altar: Michael the Archangel knocks down into the hell of Satan, depicted in the form of a bear. The polychrome in the nave shows scenes of the Passion. Currently, masses in the church St. Marcin's are celebrated only outside the winter season, on Saturdays (8.00) and on Tuesdays (7.00), and on other days in a new stone church. The facility is located on the wooden architecture trail of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship.
