Waterfalls in the High Tatras formed from three larger and several smaller cascades on the Roztoka stream flowing from the Five Polish Ponds. Three larger are named: Wyżni Wodogrzmot, Piętni Wodogrzmot and Niżni Wodogrzmot. These waterfalls have been called Wodogrzmoty because of the loud overtones caused by the falling water, especially after heavy rainfall. Thunder was the original folk name. The Tatra Society in 1891 gave the name of Adam Mickiewicz to Wodogrzmoty and Dolina Rybiego Potok in memory of bringing the ashes of the Polish national poet to Wawel a year earlier. Two tourist routes lead to Wodogrzmoty: red from Toporowa Cyrhla and green from the shelter in the Stara Roztoka glade.
