Also called the Black Pond at Morskie Oko. The lake is located in a post-glacial boiler in the Rybiego Potok Valley. The name results from the shadows cast by the peaks and the cyanosis occurring in the water, giving the lake a dark, almost black color. It is located at an altitude of 1583 m a.s.l. It covers about 20.64 ha, its maximum depth is up to 76.4 m. The lake is closed by a rock threshold, built of heavily smoothed rocks with which the waters of Czarny Staw fall, creating a waterfall called the Czarnostawska waterfall.
