The valley probably provides the most attractions from all Tatra valleys. The valley tour begins in the town of Kir. It is a general valley, it stretches from the foot of the Tatra Mountains to their ridge. It is about 9 km long, with an area of about 35 km². It lies within the Tatra National Park. The Kościeliska Valley has many branches, the most important of which are the Miętusia Valley, the Pyszniańska Valley and the Tomanowa Valley. The highest point in its surroundings is Błyszcz - 2159 m. Its structure is a long and deep rock gorge. Its walls narrow in three places, creating the so-called gates: Niżnia (Kantaka Gate), P intermediate (Kraszewski Gate) and Wyżnia Kościeliska Brama (Raptawicka Gate). The Pleistocene glacier influenced the terrain in the southern part of the Kościeliska Valley. It is made of crystalline rocks. The middle and lower parts are made of sedimentary rocks, dolomites, slate and sandstone. An important role in the formation of the valley was also played by the once flowing stream and groundwater. This is how differently shaped rocks and numerous caves were created: Mroźna Cave, Smocza Jama, Mylna Cave, Raptawicka Cave and Obłazkowa Cave, as well as the glades: Stara Polana, Pisana Glade, Stare Kościeliska, and Kira Miętusia. The valley area also boasts interesting flora. Rare specimens of plants occur here, such as: kutner cotoneaster, rutilus suspect, dioecious sedge or blue skeleton. Once Kościeliska Valley had a lot in common with the steel industry. Silver and copper were mined there since the end of the 15th century, and from the 18th century mainly iron ore, which was smelted in Stare Kościeliska. Many hiking trails leave the valley, and in its upper part, in the town of Kir, there is a tourist hostel on Hala Ornak.
